01
How much weight could I lose on an Origin Fast?
Everyone responds differently, depending on starting weight, body composition and metabolic health. Most Origin Fast participants lose between 4–8 lbs (approximately 1.8–3.6 kg) over five days.
The type of body fat lost matters—research on fasting-mimicking has shown reductions specifically in visceral fat around the middle, the type associated with increased health risk.
Important changes are happening beneath the surface too. Fasting can improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic flexibility—how effectively the body switches between glucose and stored fat for energy. This can provide a powerful kick-start for longer-term weight and metabolic health goals, rather than five days of weight loss in isolation.
02
Who typically joins an Origin Fast?
There really isn't one typical Origin Fast participant.
Our community spans different ages, countries, lifestyles and starting points. Some people join primarily to lose unwanted body fat or improve their metabolic health. Others are interested in healthy ageing, longevity and the science of fasting. Some have tried intermittent fasting for years; others have never fasted before.
What they tend to share is a desire to fast properly, understand the science behind it, and be supported while they do it.
Origin Fast is also designed to work wherever you are. Participants join us from around the world, and we schedule live sessions at GMT- and EST-friendly times to help our international community take part together. If you can't attend every session live, you'll still have access to all the recordings, private chat within our app, and the supporting resources throughout the programme.
You don't need to arrive fit, experienced or already eating a particular way. You arrive with your own starting point — that's exactly why Origin Fast is personalised.
03
What will I eat during an Origin Fast?
You’ll eat real food every day. Rather than relying on pre-packaged foods, our menus are made up from fresh, recognisable ingredients you prepare at home, from soups and slaws to salads and smoothies, with ingredients chosen to reflect the season of each fast.
Every recipe has a nutritional purpose. We use an approach called volumetrics, selecting foods that are naturally high in water and gut-healthy fibre, to create satisfying portions while keeping energy intake carefully controlled. Meals are predominantly plant-based and rich in a diverse range of vegetables, herbs and healthy fats, supporting the gut microbiome while helping manage hunger and maintain digestive health.
Calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat are carefully structured to maintain the nutritional conditions of a fasting-mimicking protocol, while portions are adjusted according to your personalised Origin Fast plan.
The result is food that feels fresh, generous and enjoyable, while being precisely designed for the physiology of the five-day fast.
04
Will I feel hungry?
At times! Hunger is often most noticeable as your body adjusts during the early stages. But you won't be doing it alone. Your food is carefully planned, and daily live guidance and community support help you navigate each stage.
Many participants are surprised by how quickly their relationship with hunger changes.
05
How is Origin Fast different from intermittent fasting?
Intermittent fasting usually involves relatively short, repeated fasting windows — most commonly around 16 hours — although some approaches use one or two non-consecutive days of substantial calorie restriction each week.
Origin Fast takes a different approach. Five consecutive days create a more prolonged fasting-mimicking environment, allowing the metabolic adaptations associated with fasting to be sustained rather than repeatedly interrupted by normal eating days.
Throughout an Origin Fast, both what you eat and how much you eat are carefully controlled. Energy intake is reduced, protein is deliberately limited, and the balance of carbohydrate and healthy fats is structured to reduce nutrient signalling and support the body's transition away from its normal fed state. This is intended to promote greater reliance on stored energy and fasting-associated cellular pathways, including processes involved in autophagy and cellular recycling.
The five-day duration is also deliberate. The aim is not to extend fasting indefinitely, but to create a meaningful fasting stimulus while providing sufficient nutrition and carefully managed movement to help preserve lean tissue. The transition back to normal eating is then structured as part of the protocol.
In short, intermittent fasting primarily changes when you eat; Origin Fast changes the nutritional environment for five consecutive days to create a deeper, more sustained fasting-mimicking response.
06
What makes Origin Fast different from other fasting and detox programmes?
Origin Fast isn't a juice cleanse, a generic fasting plan or a box of pre-packaged food. It brings together fasting science, personalisation, real food and expert support in one guided five-day experience.
Most fasting-mimicking protocols prescribe broadly standardised amounts of food. Origin Fast starts with the individual. We calculate your energy needs and personalise your portions, while keeping the nutritional composition carefully structured around fasting-mimicking principles.
You'll prepare fresh, seasonal meals from everyday ingredients, rather than relying on ultra-processed fasting products. The recipes use high-fibre, high-volume, predominantly plant-based foods designed to make a low-energy intake as satisfying and nutritionally valuable as possible.
And you won't simply be handed a plan and left to get on with it. You'll fast live alongside Amanda, the Origin Fast expert team and a small community, with daily education, movement, Pilates and yoga, meditation, Q&As and ongoing support. Research into lifestyle interventions consistently identifies social support as an important factor in helping people adhere to dietary and behaviour change.
Most importantly, Origin Fast doesn't end when the five-day fast does. A structured transition and four weeks of wraparound support help you understand what has changed, build on your results and turn a short intervention into the starting point for longer-term change.
Origin Fast isn't simply a fast you complete. It's an experience designed to change what you know — and what you do — afterwards.
07
Can I exercise during an Origin Fast?
Yes — but this isn't the time to chase personal bests.
Throughout your Origin Fast experience, you'll have access to expert guidance from a PT, Pilates teacher, and yoga teachers, with live at-home classes designed specifically for fasting days. Sessions focus on gentle strength, Pilates, mobility, stretching and restorative movement, alongside walking to keep you active without placing unnecessary demands on recovery.
During the five fasting days, we recommend stepping back from high-intensity training, heavy lifting and strenuous endurance exercise. With energy intake deliberately reduced, the priority shifts from performance to maintaining movement, supporting lean muscle mass and allowing the body to adapt to the fast.
You'll also be guided through the transition back to your normal exercise routine as your energy intake increases.
08
Can I take my usual medication or supplements?
Medication is different from supplements, so we don't treat them as interchangeable.
Never stop, reduce or alter prescribed medication in order to fast without speaking to the healthcare professional responsible for your care. Some medicines need to be taken with food, and fasting may be inappropriate with certain medications or health conditions.
We'll provide guidance on supplements as part of your preparation, but if you take regular medication, please check that Origin Fast is appropriate for you before beginning.
09
Is Origin Fast safe?
Origin Fast is based on fasting-mimicking principles developed through decades of scientific research, combined with 25 years of world-leading experience delivering fasting programmes.
You'll eat real, carefully designed food every day, with your intake personalised to your individual energy needs. You'll also be guided through preparation, all five fasting days and the important transition back to normal eating.
Origin Fast isn't suitable for everyone. You shouldn't fast if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Certain medical conditions and medications can also make fasting unsuitable, so please speak to your doctor or healthcare professional if you're unsure. Our team can help guide you too.

What happens after the fast?
The transition back to everyday eating is an important part of the experience. You'll be guided on how to reintroduce food, increase protein and energy intake, and build on the changes you've made rather than simply returning to old habits.
There's a good reason for the continued support. Research into dietary and weight-management programmes consistently shows that support, accountability and ongoing contact can improve adherence to behaviour change. Supervised programmes and those incorporating social support tend to achieve better adherence than people trying to make the same changes alone.
That's why Origin Fast includes four weeks of wraparound support after your fast, with continued access to recipes, education, expert guidance, practical tools and your community. It's a chance to turn what you've learned about hunger, appetite, food choices and your own body into habits that work in everyday life.
If you're using Origin Fast to kick-start weight loss or improve metabolic health, these weeks are especially important: the aim isn't simply to achieve results in five days, but to give you the knowledge, support, and accountability to keep moving forward.
